Facing clinker brick sorting no. 198.20
Vibrant, warm and robust brick facade
Brick grade 198.20 is a facing brick in anthracite-black colour. This clinker brick is made from East Frisian meadow clay. It is produced using the extrusion process and is therefore also known as an extruded brick. The facing brick is available in all standard formats, as brick slips and shaped bricks.
In the production of our clinker bricks, we rely on the tried-and-tested extrusion process. In this process, the clay mass is pressed through a die under high pressure, creating a continuous strand of clay. Once the clay has been extruded, the strand is cut into individual brick blanks using several finely adjusted wires, also known as harp cutters, which cut the blanks to the required width.
The influence of the amount of oxygen during the firing process in our tunnel kiln creates its naturally fired colour transitions from light red to iridescent blue and blue-violet with yellowish green components and gives it its typical character, which penetrates right into the core of the brick. We do not use any engobes or other chemical additives for our Wittmunder Klinker, so our "baking mix" is 100% natural in origin.
We offer them as DIN solid clinker bricks (KMz) or absolute solid clinker bricks. Each of our facing clinker bricks are surface-sintered bricks. Sintering is a process that creates a glassy, dense character due to the extremely high firing temperature used to produce the visible surface. Clinker bricks absorb hardly any water (maximum water absorption by mass: 6 per cent) and are therefore very resistant. They are weather and frost resistant. Clinker bricks are also characterised by their high compressive strength and are synonymous with maximum durability.
Our clinker bricks and facing bricks are generally regarded as an environmentally friendly building material, as our raw material is quarried regionally, thus avoiding long-distance transport. This helps to protect the environment and improve the CO2 balance. Another important aspect in connection with ecological considerations is the extraordinarily long service life of clinker bricks. Clinker bricks are usually installed once for a building and remain unchanged throughout their entire service life. Assuming an average lifespan of 50 years for a house (although the bricks themselves can easily be used for 100 years or more), this contributes significantly to improving the carbon footprint and environmental balance. Compared to plastered facades, which need to be regularly renewed and painted, clinker bricks are the more environmentally friendly option.
