As part of the modernization of the 1970s building, the architects created a distinct architectural duality: aluminium composite panels in a refined silver tone for the upper levels, and a robust, character-rich brick base. For this lower façade, the planners selected our Klinker Sortierung 131.1 in Normalformat, installed in an alternating orientation.

The blue-red flashed, hand-sorted bricks bring depth, texture, and a crafted authenticity to the building’s appearance. In combination with dark grey mortar, the façade creates a vivid yet harmonious surface that anchors the modernized volume and establishes a clear connection to the regional brick tradition of the Ruhr area.

The project also includes triple-glazed window systems, improved insulation, and building-integrated photovoltaic elements that function as permanent shading. Together, these measures significantly enhance the building’s energy performance.

With its interplay of tradition and technology, the Training Centre now stands as a forward-looking example of sustainable refurbishment — and as a showcase for the expressive potential of our 131.1 brick.
