Seeloge - Inclusive hotel

Eutin
Wuttke Ringhof

The SeeLoge in Eutin, a project by Wuttke & Ringhof Architekten, manifests an architectural approach that places social inclusion at the centre of its design. In this respect, the clinker brick acts not only as an aesthetic element, but also as a fundamental link between form, function and the inclusive philosophy of the building.

The choice of clinker brick, in symbiosis with wood and concrete, not only gives the hotel a textural depth, but also a robust longevity. This material, both traditional and modern, provides visual and tactile orientation in the space, which is particularly invaluable for people with visual impairments. This demonstrates the ingenious simplicity of the architects in combining functional necessity with aesthetic expression.

With a deliberately restrained volume, the building enters into a dialogue with its surroundings and in particular with the historic Eutin Castle. The clinker brick façade, an echo of the regional building culture, reinforces this connection and firmly locates the hotel in its cultural and geographical context. The skilful structuring of the structure through the change of materials and the staggered volumes avoids any form of monotony without jeopardising the coherence of the overall design.

With a budget of 8.9 million euros and a usable area of 1,800 square metres, the SeeLoge was awarded the 2022 State Prize for Building Culture shortly after its completion, recognising not only its architectural quality but also its social commitment. This project is a shining example of how architecture can serve as a medium for social inclusion without compromising on aesthetic or functional quality. The SeeLoge thus stands not only as a building, but as a manifesto of architecture that is committed to society.
